About company

VARIEL has been in the business for over fifty years. In 1964 the manufacturing plant was established as a division of a fastener assembly plant called Montážní podnik spojů Praha (Prague Mounting Joint Venture) in Zruč nad Sázavou. The company satisfied needs for fasteners used in a large scale of packaging and technology sheltering .

Originally this technology referred to utility sheds only. Till present they have remained a part of the company’s product range in a changed form. In the 80s company expanded its product range and included containers designated for accomodating of various kinds of technological systems which were principally designed for the use in telecommunication constructions. Since the mid 90s the technological and special containers have become leading products in the company’s product range.

Undoubtedly, Variel´s telephone booths have remained the most popular products throughout the Czech Republic. They were selected in a tender held by SPT TELECOM (now- Telefonica O2 Czech Republic) in 1993. The following year Variel’s mailboxes ordered by the Czech Post were awarded with the quality symbol "CZECH MADE".

The company has been certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, AQAP 2110 standards and holds the Great Welding Licence and a certificate of being qualified to manufacture and repair ISO series 1, freight containers. The company also has a certificate for Access to Classified Information.

Variel is located on the outskirts of Zruč nad Sázavou, which is about 60 km southeast of Prague and 5 km far from the motorway D1 (connecting Prague and Brno). The company has its own railway delivery tracks that lead to the company from the nearby railway station.

The company has about 150 employees and its own manufacturing operations. These include a large metalwork hall; a metal preparation hall with a computer-controlled machine for dividing, boring and shaping of materials. A lacquering facility with modern lacquering boxes; a powder coating facility; a sandblasting box for material pre-treating; a laminating facility with equipment for fibreglass production using injection and winding technologies; an assembly hall with supplemental workshops, such as carpentry and machine shops. In order to continue developing new products the company has its own development and design department.

Variel’s leading products are technological containers. They are used as covers for telecommunication exchanges, GSM technology and radiocommunication networks, stations for satellite connections, air traffic navigations, atmosphere monitoring, etc.

Since 2004 the company has been involved in developing and manufacturing of various types of military containers designated for NATO militaries. These are ISO series 1 freight containers with various designs – sanitary shelters, kitchen and food service containers, drinking water storage tanks, septic tanks, refrigerated containers, storage containers, etc.

Technology shelters complete the product range. They are designated for protection of various technical installations such as media and security technology on railways, natural gas control station covers, cathodic protection stations on pipelines, telecommunication distributors, etc.

Variel is able to realize orders in the field of container housing (offices) and completely non-standard structures. The company’s product line includes mobile containers too. Their main advantage is that they can be transported via passenger cars. These are manufactured in various modifications, for ex. as an office, showers, toilet, housing, etc.

Variel is also a manufacturer of antenna towers used in radiocommunications, mobile telecommunication networks and various steel constructions. The company is able to realize orders including on-site assembly anywhere in the world.

In addition to the production of playground slides, letterboxes and parts for the company’s own products, Variel also specialises in fibreglass parts manufacture, for e.g. bus and truck bonnet (hood) parts. The company has become known for its highly specialised products by supplying antenna covers for television transmitters to Černá Hora and Kráľova hoľa, the signal transmitter on Praděd Mountain and particularly the Žižkov transmitter in Prague.

In 2007 the company expanded its activities in the area of railway vehicles. Now the product range includes composite tram cabins, sandwich roofs and other parts. The company’s unique fibreglass winding technology allows to satisfy orders for composite unibody subframes for public transportation vehicles.

City furniture completes the company’s product programme. This integrated set of products includes tram and bus stop shelters, advertising and information panels and above standard retail stands. The company also supplies service-free bathrooms to the Czech market.
