About company
VARIEL has been in business for over forty years. The manufacturing plant was established in Zruč nad Sázavou in 1964 as a division of the fastener assembly plant Montážní podnik spojů Praha. The company satisfied needs for fasteners used in large-scale packaging and cover technology.
Originally this technology only referred to utility sheds and, though of course in a changed form, sheds have remained a part of the company’s product range. In the 1980s company expanded its range to include engineering containers which were principally designed for use in telecommunications construction. Engineering and special containers have been the leading products in the company’s product range since the mid-90s.
The most popular products throughout the Czech Republic have undoubtedly remained Variel telephone booths – these were selected in a tender held by the predecessor to Telefonica O2 Czech Republic, SPT TELECOM, in 1993. The following year, Variel’s letterboxes supplied to the Czech Post were awarded the CZECH MADE quality symbol.
The company has been certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, AQAP 2110 standards, and holds a large welding licence and a certificate that the company is qualified to manufacture and repair ISO series 1 freight containers. The company also has a security clearance.
Variel is located on the outskirts of Zruč nad Sázavou, about 60 km southeast of Prague and 5 km from the D1 motorway (connecting Prague and Brno). The company has its own railway delivery tracks that lead to the company from the nearby railway station.
The company has roughly 150 employees and its own manufacturing operations. These include a large metalworking hall; a metal preparation hall with a computer-controlled machine for dividing, boring and shaping materials; a lacquering facility with modern lacquering boxes; a powder coating facility; a sandblasting box for pre-treating materials; a laminating facility with equipment for manufacturing fibreglass using injection and winding technology; and an assembly hall with supplemental workshops, such as carpentry and machine shops. To develop new products, the company has its own development and design department.
PRODUCT RANGE
The leading product in Variel’s product range is engineering containers. These are used as covers for telecommunications exchanges, GSM technology and radiocommunications networks, as stations for satellite connections, air traffic navigation, atmosphere monitoring etc.
Since 2004 the company has been involved in developing and manufacturing various types of military containers designated for NATO militaries. These are ISO series 1 freight containers with various designs – sanitary shelters, kitchen and food service containers, drinking water storage tanks, septic tanks, refrigerated containers, storage containers etc.
A line of utility sheds designated for various technical installations, such as media and security technology on railways, natural gas regulator station covers, for cathodic protection stations on pipelines, telecommunications distributors etc.
Variel is also able to implement orders in the field of container housing (offices) and completely non-standard structures. The company’s product line includes mobile containers as well – their main advantage is that they can be transported behind a passenger car. These are manufactured to various modifications, e.g. as an office, showers, toilet, for housing etc.
Variel is also a manufacturer of antenna towers used in radiocommunications and mobile telecommunications networks, and various steel constructions. The company is able to execute orders, including on-site assembly, anywhere in the world.
In the field of manufacturing fibreglass parts, in addition to playground slides, letterboxes and parts for the company’s own products, Variel also satisfies specialised orders for e.g. bus and truck bonnet (hood) parts. By manufacturing antenna covers for the television transmitters at Černá Hora and Kráľova hoľa, the signal transmitter on Praděd Mountain and particularly the Žižkov transmitter in Prague, the company has become known for its highly specialised products.
In 2007 the company expanded its operations to the field of railway vehicles. The product range now includes composite tram cabins, sandwich roofs and other parts. The company’s unique fibreglass winding technology allows it to satisfy orders for composite unibody subframes for public transportation vehicles.
City furniture rounds out the company’s product range. This integrated set of products includes tram and bus stop shelters, advertising and information panels and top-of-the-line retail stands. The company also supplies service-free bathrooms to the Czech market.
